Gillnet removed from the coast near Yarborough

Just after four o’clock yesterday evening, fisheries officials were called out to an area behind Wesley College where they found a seventy-five-foot gillnet set in the waters along the coast of the Yarborough area. Not only is it illegal to use gillnets within the city but the size of the mesh exceeded the approved three and a half inches. Love News was at the area when the net was being removed. We were unable to get an official statement from the Fisheries Department but we did speak with the Communications Officer for Oceana, Alyssa Carnegie.
