The finish line is in sight. Much of the heavy lifting is done and we can remove gillnets—curtains of death—from Belizean waters. The Coalition for Sustainable Fisheries hopes to raise $1,000,000 USD for the transition of licensed Belizean gillnetters to other sustainable livelihoods.
Your financial support is essential and all donations are welcome. We have made donating as easy as possible through the Go Fund Me platform. All donations are tax-deductible.
August 5, 2019 - The Coalition for Sustainable Fisheries has received a $75,000 matching grant and all donations to the Coalition between July 31, 2019 and December 31, 2019 will be matched with an equal donation effectively doubling all donations and providing $150,000 (USD) to support a country-wide gillnet ban. The generous donors are long-time advocates for Belize's marine environment who wish to remain anonymous.
Other Ways to Help
Spread the Word
In addition to your donation, we ask that you take a few minutes to spread the word. Efforts such as this need word-of-mouth networking to capitalize on the power of people who care. Please share our website and mission on your social media platforms, at gatherings with friends, on fishing trips, diving trips and at any opportunity you have to spread the word.
Check out our Participating Businesses. As consumers we have a responsibility to inform businesses of causes we deem important. Please let us know of any businesses with a presence in Belize who are not listed as participants. We will contact them to ask for their support and we also encourage you to email them directly. We are happy to provide you with a form letter for this purpose.
